Set central to the small artisan-laden villages tucked up one side of the Door Peninsula and down the other, is this white washed and airy, wind-powered historic lodge. This sweet little enclave of New England-style buildings benefits from fresh lake winds that waft through its sashed windows – making it easy to say “no” to cranking up the air conditioner (which is provided) even in hot July . . . The Lodgings at Pioneer Lane might have the best location on the Peninsula for travelers concerned about their carbon footprint and the price to stay in one of these beautifully appointed rooms and suites is a bargain by many standards.
